[She could think of a lot of ways, actually, but Fiona has a hard time believing that Rhys really believes there is a worse fate for him than what is currently occurring. He's Hyperion without an umbrella cocktail and without rose colored glasses.
It doesn't get worse than that. Right?]

Yeah, that'd be a tough break for you wouldn't it?
[She still has a hard time conceiving how Rhys and Vaughn actually managed to find August without any real injuries -- Vaughn especially.]
So. How long have you known the short one?
no subject
He shouldn't have asked Yvette for more when she was already being watched - now there's no real chance to tell her.] But whatever.
We go back a ways. Hyperion's not a company ladder you climb over night, and too many people in it are making the same leap at the same time. It can get nasty. A little cutthroat. Having someone behind you that you can trust...I dunno, it helps.
Vaughn's a good guy.
no subject
This guy doesn't make any sense. Hearing him hone in on Sasha makes her go a bit tight shouldered, but its brief. She's trained herself out of showing prolonged displays of emotion like that -- it made it too easy to pinpoint weaknesses. She cared about Sasha, and she had cared about Felix. They were her family.
She doesn't really want to talk about them to a corporate Hyperion stooge, but he had potentially saved her life and seemed to be honestly relaying his feelings about people he trusted.]
Sasha doesn't need me.
[Short, pointed and without hint of how she feels about her sister's independence from her. Not a true compromise, but it was something other than silence.]
He looks up to you. Vaughn.
[It was kind of cute, in its own way. It didn't take rocket science to see that Vaughn had a vested interest in seeing Rhys close his deal with that vault key, though she is certain not all of his desires were completely altruistic.]

I'm doubting you fit that mold when it comes to your people, or you wouldn't still be down here.
[Her legs cross.]
no subject
Before it was a fake, I guess.
no subject
There's really nothing to be proud of.]
Well, it wasn't really meant for you. It was meant for that Vasquez guy.
no subject
After all, what was Vasquez gonna do? Fire him?]
no subject
If you woulda left it alone, he'd probably be flying out up there in space by now.
[There's a pause. She thinks about the case, and the bomb it had been equipped with. Her mind runs back to Vasquez, and then to Felix, and then to the whole of the operation.
Her curiosity gets the better of her.]
...were you really gonna pay them?
no subject
For a-- pretty standard Pandoran thug, anyway.
Besides, blowing up the case wouldn't put the money back in our hands, either.
no subject
[Ten freakin' million dollars, and it was gone. Life-changing money, gone. At least, it was life-changing to people like her and Sasha.]
Awkward. She pulls up her knees and folds her arms across her chest, suddenly in need of a topic change.]
We should get going. Bandits are going to be looking for them...and us.
no subject
[He's already climbing to his feet (reluctantly at first, and then less so at the mention of Vaughn and Sasha) feeling winded and tired and hungrier than he ever thought he'd be. How they're going to even navigate in this mess aside from using Helios as some general waypoint is beyond him: wide-range contact with Vaughn might not even work if the pair don't know where they are.]
no subject
[Its not a real question -- she imagines the 'we' just kind of slipped in there. Hyperion has nothing for her. She's a Hyperion and Pandoran menace alike.
She follows Rhys into a standing position, holding her head to ensure she doesn't fall over from dizziness. In truth, they have no leads. They could be at this for days.]
Can you contact Vaughn if we get close enough to him?
no subject
And probably. I can contact him now, but that doesn't mean I can track his signal without pinging the system. Might help if we both figure out where we are first.
no subject
[There's a long pause as she glances for a high point to better figure out where the bandits are currently moving.]
Call him, get some landmarks, I'll get a direction.
[And before he can protest, she's taking off for the shorter cliff-face nearest them. It won't take her long to get her bearings, but they'll have to move on foot.
It won't be until after he's touched base with his partner that she drops to the ground with a heavy 'thud'. She holds back from asking about her sister.]
Nobody's chasing us anymore, but I'd guess that's because sundown is probably going to hit in a few hours.
no subject
Either way, within the span of fifteen minutes he's crawling back down where they'd split off.]
Fiona!!
no subject
Did you find them?
no subject
I just, uh-- can't get a fix on them without risking someone else listening in.
no subject
[She considers their layout options before gesturing passed him toward the opposite direction.]
We'll start out that way. We've got a fifty fifty chance of the bandit volume increasing after sundown, and I know the idea of sleeping on the ground would absolutely horrify you.
no subject
He's got this.]
no subject
[But steady they go, following the signal. Once the sun really begins to disappear and the stars take over the sky, she speaks up again:]
Bet you ten dollars you don't last one hour without complaining about it.
no subject
no subject
[Because there's no way Rhys isn't gonna fold into sobbing about how cold it is. Or, there was the alternative, which is hummed out innocently after just a few long seconds:]
Checked your pockets recently?
