[Errands. Had to be errands. Sure, they need doing. Garrus isn't about to argue that with everything that went down on Thessia-- not to mention what's looming off on the horizon-- that Shepard needs the break, and the Alliance Fleet could use every last drop of the supplies still left up for grabs. He's not complaining, he's voluntarily picking up the slack.
That doesn't mean he's thrilled about competing for resources, or that he enjoys cutting down packs of Loki Mechs instead of real, solid veterans, but this isn't about him. Never really was.
Intai'sei's human colonies are more wide-open space than some of the settlements they've visited in the past. Something to do with the heat and sand, most likely. It means his targets have little in the way of cover (nevermind that it goes both ways, they're walking heaps of scrap for the most part; he doesn't need to be cautious) turns the whole thing into more of a shooting gallery than anything else.
Bo-ring.]
I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO CALL IT BUT LET'S ROLL :D
[Intai'sei was one of those assignments that you just had to endure. That you better didn't even bother arguing against, or questioning. It was one of those planets he'd been to before once or twice, never on important missions, always doing clean-up jobs. Because Intai'sei seemed to always have a disaster ready for whatever Cerberus mission went down here. It wasn't a bad location - largely unpopulated, conveniently out of the Alliance's eye for the most part - but the planet's potential for critical mission failures forced operatives like Kai Leng to intervene about 50% of the time.
He couldn't stand this planet.
Heat aside, the openness of the desert and the lack of infrastructure made it a tactical nightmare to get from one place to the other without attracting attention, given the spareness of the supplies he was given for these assignments. Namely none that he couldn't carry. And strangers always attracted attention in these parts.
The team of researchers out of Thoreau Mesa had been the only group travelling this far out, several clicks from the last settlement outside the city - or what passed as one on this planet. Ethnically, he didn't draw any attention. Most of the scientists spoke Japanese, but universal translators and the Mandarin-speaking workers and guides had made it easier to slip into the background in the small expedition, after a few credit chits in the right hands had bought him a uniform and a spot in the group.
Not that any of that mattered much now that he was here, crouched behind a heap of scrap just a few metres from a turian with a sniper rifle of all things. He didn't even know why a turian was with them in the first place. And opposite of them, taking aim and slowly tearing through both their cover and the other members of the expedition were the very Loki Mechs he'd been sent to recover along with the Cerberus squad testing them in the desert. Unfortunately, it seemed said tests had been interrupted by several malfunctions brought on by faulty equipment thanks to the climate conditions. The mechs had torn through the Cerberus soldiers and scientists just as easily as they did through the civilian ones now. And Kai Leng's mission had turned from rendezvous and retrieval to search and destroy - any remaining traces if possible.
He peered over the edge of his cover and immediately dropped back down. The burst of fire aimed for him hit the worker to his right instead, tore through her chest and ripped her arm off. While she bled out quickly into the sand, Kai Leng put down the robust, but sadly in the face of these enemies rather useless handgun the team leader had equipped all the work and security personnel with, and fought down his reluctance before he turned and shouted over the fire to the turian so conveniently seated next to their cache of weapons and thermoclips.]
OK HERE WE GO it can be AUversetime or side nonsense so we're not replaying the script

Hey - turian!
I need a gun!
